After you've had professional teeth whitening done you’ll want to keep your smile looking bright. Here are a few tips from our Surrey dentists on how to keep your smile white after teeth whitening treatment.
Brushing & Flossing Thoroughly
Brushing and flossing regularly and sufficiently is key to keeping your teeth white. A good oral hygiene routine will help you to remove surface stains and keep stains them from setting into your teeth. It's important to brush your teeth twice a day every day, for two minutes at a time, and floss at least once daily.
Gently brush all four quadrants of your mouth, and don’t stop until you have completed two full minutes of brushing. Be extremely thorough! An electric toothbrush with a round, rotating head can help with this process. Some electric toothbrushes come with built in timers to let you know when the two minutes is up. You may be surprised how long two minutes actually is.
Avoid Dark-Coloured Foods and Drinks
Over time, dark pigmented foods or drinks can cause tooth discolouration. Coffee, tea, dark berries, and even spices like curry, should be consumed in moderation if your goal is to avoid staining your teeth.
Quit Smoking
Smoking really discolours teeth. Smoking can turn your teeth yellow or even brown over time. So, consider your teeth if you need another reason to quit smoking and toss those smokes in the garbage!
Occasional Touch Ups
If the effects of your whitening treatment wear off a bit over time, you may want to consider a touch up. You can re-use the whitening trays you already have, and just speak to your dentist about ordering some more of the whitening solution.
